Exploring the Intersection of Telematics, Social Media and Ground Transportation

OK - Jim and I spoke on the phone over a month ago when we did this interview. I've delayed posting it for two reasons, I) I have been busier than a one armed paperhanger on other projects and 2) I am embarrassed at the audio quality on my part of the recording. Apparently a few minutes into the interview, my phone stopped working correctly and it sounded like I was about 100 miles away.

I worked and reworked the audio and this is the best I can produce with the recording without snipping out my voice and impacting the integrity of the interaction. I thought about clipping out ALL my parts, re-recording them and putting them back in using my editing software, but felt that might be seen as disingenuous. So here it is, warts and all.

Jim and I have not met - I was hoping to connect with him at LCT East but I understood him to not be in the building. I know of Jim and read everything I can find on and by him because he seems to be just as agressive in exploring technology and marketing as I am.

In this podcast Jim and I talk first about what I think is one of the most important issues of any endeavor and that is the safety of the driver team and the passenger. We then talk about how a company can be more than a group of disconnected individuals, it can be a team and part of an owners duty is to find ways to connect the individuals in the company and make them a team; it matters to the quality of the service the organization can deliver.

Jim is also an advocate of automation in a company and has seen a lot of tech come & go in this industry. He expands on his ideas on how an automated system will impact a limo company, large or small . We wrap this episode by looking at the advent of low cost GPS and why it's becoming a defacto requirement of many operators.

(This is part one of two. The audio will start immediately as you read the post, if not, press the play button below. I'll add downloading capabilities next and tie this to iTunes as soon as I can.)

Great interview.

Jim has provided me with more valuable information regarding the limousine industry than any other single source that I have found since I started in this business.

I have never met Jim, and I am nobody special, but that is a good part of what makes him stand out as an operator. He is willing to share tips, information, even things as crucial to his business as his company Operations Manual with others starting out, just for the asking.

There are no strings attached, nothing asked in return; he just works for the greater good and the betterment of the industry.

Jim Luff has not only put knowledge into my mind, but dollars into my pocket. Thanks, to Jim, and thanks to Steve for recognizing him as the invaluable resource that he is.
