Exploring the Intersection of Telematics, Social Media and Ground Transportation

Hey Left Laners
I recently created a group on Facebook called 'limochat'. The group allows chauffeurs worldwide to discuss and analyze the chauffeured transport industry, in addition to providing an environment for networking.

Only being a couple days old, I have managed to gain some members but have struggled to get conversation going on the discussion boards. Having read these forums as a guest, I believe your experience and knowledge may help the group get off the ground.

Although it seems Myspace is the most popular of the two, I would greatly appreciate your membership if you have a Facebook account. Simply type 'limochat' in the search field located in the top left corner of screen and then click 'Join Group'.

Hopefully this doesn't sound like a sales pitch, but through limochat i met Steven and discovered this great network.

Keep up the good work,
George Burgman

I read the other day that the big four of social media are Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Flickr... While not an absolute necessity, they represent the core of any online presence beyond the company website

I have been impressed with the membership so far on limochat but struggling to get discussion going on the boards. Any ideas? I was actually hoping more people from limos.com would join as there appears to be many frequent posters on their boards.

The crowd at Limos.com are there because it is familiar and the interaction is comfortable. It was the first (one of the first?) forums for the industry and they grew a following.

Likewise, here at InTheLeftLane, we're looking to establish our own forum threads and have created areas that we think participants would want. Social media is not a 'build-it-and-they-will-come' automatically proposition. I think it take precisely the kind of interaction you are involved in and it takes time.

Regardless of where the community decides to interact, that is where the social media specialist will be as well. The crowd makes up it's own mind and you, as an individual cannot sway it easily, if at all.
